Mission Hospice // Web Design Case Study

When Mission Hospice needed to update their website, they knew exactly what they wanted in the new design.  Since 1979, this non-profit organization has been dedicated to providing comfort, compassion and support to San Mateo residents who are facing terminal or life limiting illnesses. They wanted their website to serve as an extension of this caring support by being easy to navigate and providing vital information in a comforting way.

The Plan

Those who are dealing with illness and bereavement are often faced with a vast amount of information at a very difficult time.  Making that information as easy to find and understand as possible was of the utmost importance when it came time to design the new site.

The foundation of the new design was information and navigation. Our team sought to include every bit of information that a visitor looking into hospice care would want to know and present it in a clear, easy-to-follow manner.  Everything from a list of services provided to events and news to donations is clearly visible in the menu bar, with a wealth of additional information available in one click.

Somethumb also addressed the need for an easy, secure method of donating to the organization.  Using Gravity Forms’ excellent software in conjuction with the Stripe payment platform, a page was created for donors to easily make a one-time or recurring contribution to Mission Hospice, which the donor can choose to make anonymously or in memory or honor of a loved one.

All of the site’s information was contained within a soothing color scheme and site header, which were carefully chosen to give visual comfort to those visiting.

The Result

The careful consideration given to the function and comforting feel of the new design has resulted in a website that has been well-received by both Mission Hospice and its many visitors, who have praised the site for being attractive and easy to maneuver within.

In addition to summarizing the many services the organization has to offer, the new website also provides visitors with an array of additional information, answering nearly any question or concern that might arise when considering hospice care.  A list of resources is available for patients and their families, and newsletters can be downloaded as PDF files to keep up to date with what is happening at Mission Hospice. The staff pages are filled with photos of each staff member, helping to personalize the face of the organization. A calendar of events is regularly updated, keeping visitors abreast of upcoming dates and functions.  And those wishing to contribute in some way will find a suitable option via the Volunteer and Ways To Give pages.

Hospice care is a field that provides great comfort to those in need of its services. We considered it a privilege to be able to contribute a design to help support the many endeavors of Mission Hospice.
